Chill a coupe glass.
Combine the rye, sweet vermouth and Cynar in a mixing glass.
Add ice and stir for 25–30 seconds until well chilled.
Strain into the chilled coupe.
Garnish with a brandied cherry.
Created by Audrey Saunders at Pegu Club in New York in 2005 — one of the drinks that taught a generation of bartenders what amari could do in a stirred cocktail. Cynar is made from artichokes and tastes nothing like them.
