Hurricane

The Hurricane was invented by Pat O'Brien in 1940s New Orleans as a way to offload surplus rum - distributors required bars to buy cases of it before they could order more popular spirits.

Ingredients
Havana Club Añejo 3 Años Cuban rum45 ml
Navy dark rum25 ml
Pineapple juice25 ml
Orange juice15 ml
Lime juice15 ml
Lime cordial10 ml
Rich sugar syrup7.5 ml
Passion fruit syrup5 ml
Pineapple wedge
Luxardo Maraschino Cherry
Crushed ice
Glassware
Hurricane glass
Chilled.
Method

    Pre-chill a Hurricane glass.

    Prepare garnish: a fresh pineapple wedge and a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

    Combine all measured ingredients in a cocktail shaker.

    Add ice and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds.

    Fill the Hurricane glass with crushed ice.

  6. 6

    Strain the cocktail over the crushed ice.

  7. 7

    Garnish with the pineapple wedge and cherry on the rim or skewered together.
