Fill an old-fashioned glass with large ice cubes.
Pour 45ml Scotch whisky over the ice.
Add 45ml amaretto.
Stir gently 8–10 times to combine and lightly chill.
Serve without garnish.
The ratio is everything here - equal parts makes for a sweeter, more dessert-like drink, but many bartenders prefer a 2:1 Scotch-to-amaretto split to let the whisky lead. Try a blended Scotch for approachability or an Islay malt if you want the smoke to punch through the almond sweetness.
