From Harry Craddock's Savoy Cocktail Book of 1930, where it simply calls for Scotch. Made with a blend it is pleasant; made with a peated Islay malt it becomes one of the very few cocktails that gives smoke something worth arguing with. The sloe gin's fruit is the counterweight — do not cut it.
