The Alaska first appeared in Jacques Straub's 1913 'Drinks' and later in the Savoy Cocktail Book - the ratio of gin to Yellow Chartreuse can be adjusted to taste, with more Chartreuse yielding a sweeter, more herbaceous result. Old Tom gin is a worthy substitute for a slightly rounder, less dry profile.
