From the Bartender

Appears in Jerry Thomas's 1887 Bartender's Guide. The split base is the whole idea: neither spirit dominates, and the drink tastes older and more complex than a straight Manhattan without being harder to make.

Waldorf Cocktail

Rye spice and vermouth sweetness in familiar proportion, then a cool anise wash across the top that keeps returning after each swallow.

Corpse Reviver No. 1

Baked apple and dried apricot over cognac's grape sweetness, the vermouth adding bitter herbs and a long, warming, faintly leathery finish.

Vieux Carré

Vieux Carré

Rich and spirit-forward with a warming interplay of rye spice and velvety cognac, underpinned by the bittersweet depth of sweet vermouth and the honeyed herbal complexity of Bénédictine, all lifted by the floral, anise-tinged bite of Peychaud's bitters.
