Add the rum, sweet vermouth, red bitter liqueur, and mole bitters to a mixing glass.
Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for approximately 30 seconds until well chilled and properly diluted.
Strain into an old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube or chunk of block ice.
Express an orange zest twist over the surface of the drink to release the oils, then use as garnish or discard.
Optionally garnish with an orange slice wheel instead of or alongside the twist.
The Right Hand was created by Michael McIlroy at Milk & Honey in New York City as a direct riff on the Negroni, swapping gin for aged rum. The addition of mole bitters is the recipe's secret weapon - Xocolatl bitters bridge the rum's sweetness and Campari's bitterness with a subtle cocoa-and-spice note that gin could never achieve.
