Cut half a lime into quarters and place directly into a rocks glass.
Add 30ml of elderflower cordial.
Muddle firmly to release the lime juice and essential oils, pressing down without shredding the pith.
Fill the glass with crushed ice.
Pour 60ml of cachaça over the ice.
Stir well to integrate all ingredients.
Top with a little more crushed ice to crown the glass.
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge and serve immediately.
Muddle the lime gently but deliberately - you want the juice and the fragrant oils from the zest, not the bitter white pith, which can turn the drink harsh. Elderflower cordial doubles as both sweetener and aromatic here, so no additional sugar is needed.
