Combine fino sherry, dry vermouth, maraschino liqueur, and orange bitters in a mixing glass.
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes and stir for approximately 30 seconds until well chilled and properly diluted.
Strain into a chilled coupette glass.
Express a lemon or orange zest twist over the surface of the drink to release the oils, then discard the twist.
Garnish with a skewered green olive and serve immediately.
The Coronation is one of several early 20th-century sherry-vermouth stirred cocktails that predate the modern aperitivo revival - using fino sherry in place of a base spirit keeps the ABV low and the palate fresh, making it an ideal before-dinner drink. Chill your coupette well in advance; this cocktail has no citrus to mask temperature, so a warm glass will expose every flaw.
